Kobe! – Tableau Edition

I’ve always wanted to be a blogger and build an online presence so i decided to create a blog site and post all of my external data visualizations. This is my first external tableau #dataviz that and it always hold a special place in my heart because it will always be a reminder to me of where i started in my #dataviz journey.

Kobe Bryant is my favorite player and is the greatest Laker to EVER put on the purple and gold uniform! So i decided to create a visualization that highlighted the last game of his career where he scored 60 points!

My background is a BI Developer and i get most of my data from SQL Tables so i had a little bit of a learning curve because the data was only available in json format from https://stats.nba.com. Luckily I work with several brilliant python developers and they were able to help me out with this project. This was a great learning opportunity for me and i was able to get the data in the format i needed.

This was also my first time dealing with latitude and longitude coordinates and i was able to build out a shot chart with a Lakers image as my background. I decided to go with a purple and gold color scheme and leverage a text table in order to show as much valuable information as i could. This was really a fun visualization to create and helped me realize how powerful tableau truly is. I’m excited about what I will be capable of creating in the future!
